Akshaya Tritiya Significance

Hindu mythology states that there are four Yuga's. The four Yuga's as their order of occurrence are Satya Yuga, Treta Yuga, Dwapar Yuga and Kali Yuga. Akshaya Tritiya is believed to be the day when Satya Yuga i.e. the golden period of human life was completed and Treta Yuga began. Thus the origin of Akshaya Tritiya is deeply established in Hinduism which dates back to time immeorial since the creation of human life on earth. Therefore Akshaya Tritiya is seen as one of the four Yugadi Tithi in Hinduism.

The word Akshaya means never ending. It is believed that the benefits of doing any Japa, Yajna, Pitra-Tarpan, Dan-Punya, reading of religious scriptures like Vedas and Puja on the day of Akshaya Tritiya never comes to an end and it remains with the person forever in his lifetime and after.

It is advisable to all Hindus to take this day as a blessing and get maximum benefit on Akshaya Tritiya date like Hindus must take bath in the sacred waters like Ganga or if someone can't go near Ganga river, he/she can pour some Ganga water in his/her bucket while bathing. Please note that you must not use soap while you have poured Ganga Jal in the bucket. Vaishakha is a great month and thus you can bath in the Ganges water not only on Akshaya Tritiya day, but during the whole month of Vaishakha. Hindu families also perform Tarpan with the water and sesame seeds on the auspicious day of Akshaya Tritiya for the deceased ancestors. It is recommended to perform Hawan on the day of Akha Teej. Performing Hawan on Akha Teej or Akshaya Tritiya gives maximum benefits with Yava i.e. barley seeds and Akshata i.e. unbroken rice.
